NORTHMELD WORKFLOWS

Extract PDF tables to Excel or CSV

Northmeld extracts tables from text-based PDFs into reviewable data that you can export as Excel (XLSX) or CSV. Review the table boundaries, headers, and values before using the exported file.

For operations teams working with supplier reports, statements, and recurring documents that contain tables.

How it works

  1. 1

    Import the PDF

Open the workspace and select your PDF. Text-based documents can be read directly; scanned pages may need enhanced recognition.

  2. 2

    Review the extracted table

Check headers, column alignment, repeated page headers, and values against the source PDF. Correct uncertain entries before export.

  3. 3

    Export usable data

Export the confirmed table as CSV or XLSX. Merge compatible tables when they share the same structure.

Example input and output

Input

A PDF table: Item | Quantity | Unit price
Cable | 2 | 12.50

Output

Item,Quantity,Unit price
Cable,2,12.50

Illustrative input and intended CSV structure; this is not a measured extraction result.

Limits and review

  • This extracts table data; it does not reproduce the full PDF page layout in Excel.
  • Merged cells, multi-line descriptions, and tables split across pages may require correction.
  • Scanned or low-quality pages may require cloud OCR and manual review.

Common questions

Can I export directly to Excel?

Confirmed table data can be exported as XLSX, or as CSV for use in Excel and other systems.

Is every PDF processed locally?

Text PDF import has a local extraction path. Active uploads, enhanced recognition, and inbox automation use private cloud processing. Check the selected import mode before sending a file.

Can I process several PDFs?

Northmeld supports upload and merge batches of up to 20 PDFs. Review compatibility before combining their tables.
